Sustainability

In September 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, an action plan for people, the planet, and prosperity, which also aims to strengthen universal peace and access to justice. This agenda is embodied in 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets for the year 2030.

To which it has added its commitment to linguistic and cultural diversity through SDG 17+1.

Sustainable Development Goals Project

Description

The 2030 Agenda is the new international development agenda that was approved in September 2015 by the United Nations. This Agenda aims to be an instrument for the fight for sustainable human development across the planet, whose fundamental pillars are the eradication of poverty, the reduction of vulnerabilities and inequalities, and the promotion of sustainability. It is a unique opportunity to transform the world by 2030 and guarantee human rights for all. The 2030 Agenda is universal. It recognizes that development needs are the same for all people, regardless of where they live. Everyone needs health, education, housing, employment, energy, equality, peace, and healthy ecosystems to live with dignity, both now and for future generations.

Key elements

People: Leave no one behind. Ensure that no one is denied universal human rights and basic economic opportunities.

Planet: Put protecting the planet at the center. Integrate the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability.

Prosperity: Transforming economies so that all human beings can enjoy prosperous, fulfilling lives in harmony with nature.

Peace: Building peace and effective, open, and accountable institutions.

Partnerships: Build a new global partnership that includes more actors and is equipped with a strong and independent monitoring mechanism.
